Storm Surge Past Spartans 5-1

INDIANAOLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team made their final road trip of the regular season to Simpson College on Saturday to take on the Storm at Buxton Stadium. The Storm would surge to an early lead and never look back as they take down the Spartans by a final score of 5-1. 

The Storm got on the board quick at the 2:20 mark and then would score again at the 15th minute as well as the 24th to take a 3-0 lead into halftime. The Storm would continue to add to their lead with another two goals in the second half. The Spartans would score late at the 88th minute with Abby Wiegand scoring the lone goal and Alyssa Tranchita on the assist to end the game 5-1 Storm. 

Riley Trudeau led the Spartans in shots with three including one shot on goal. Karissa Chalus got the start in goal for the Spartans playing the first 15:24 recording one save before Elisa Langer finished off the game recording four saves and allowing the five goals. In total, the Spartans had nine shots with two on goal. Two corner kick opportunities were provided to the Spartans, but both were unsuccessful.

The Spartans now move to 5-4-7 overall and 2-2-3 in conference play. The Spartans will take on the Buena Vista University Beavers at Oyen Field to cap off the 2022 regular season on Tuesday, October 25. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. The Spartans currently sit in fourth in the A-R-C standings and with a victory on Tuesday over the Beavers, the Spartans will host the first round of the A-R-C tournament on Saturday, October 29 as the #4 seed.
