ST. PETER, Minn. - The University of Dubuque volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Saturday at the Gustavus Adolphus College Triangular. The Spartans lost to Bethel University by a 1-3 margin and lost to the hosts Gustavus Adolphus 0-3.
Bethel grabbed the first set by a score of 25-19. The Spartans won the second set 25-17 before Bethel responded to capture the final two set scores by 25-19.
Emma Powell led UD with 13 kills,
Ashlee Adler had nine and
Darby Hawtrey had seven. Powell led defensive digs with 17, Adler had 13, and
Katie Wright had 12.
Kaylynn Murray finished with 12 set assists and
Ashlyn McGinnis had 15 set assists.
The Golden Gusties shutdown the Spartans offense with just .073 hitting percentage.
Darby Hawtrey was the lone Spartan to hit double-digits in kills in the match with 11.
Katie Wright collected 17 digs in the loss.
Two long road trips await the Spartans this week. UD will travel to Nebraska Wesleyan University for an American Rivers Conference match on Oct. 7 at 6:00 p.m. before stopping at Buena Vista University on Saturday, Oct. 8 to continue A-R-C competition at 2:00 p.m.
