Box Score LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team took the road for their longest conference road trip of the season as they traveled to Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) to take on the Prairiewolves. The long road trip wouldn't falter the Spartans as they leave Lincoln with a four set victory over NWU (16-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-23).
The Spartans would fall in the first set after falling behind in the middle of the set as they were unable to recover to open the game trailing. The second set would turn in favor of the Spartans after calling a timeout trailing 10-12. From there, the Spartans would lead 18-12 and cruise to the set win evening the game at 1-1. The Spartans had the early lead in set three before NWU made a run late to even the set at 22-22. The Spartans would hold on in the pivotal third set after
Emma Powell blocked the NWU attack. The Spartans would trail a majority of the fourth set, but the Spartans kept it close enough throughout before sitting at 23-23. NWU was looking to extend the game to a fifth set, but
Emma Powell would use back-to-back kills to give the Spartans the victory.
Powell had a great night on the attack with a game-high 23 kills on 74 attacks (.243).
Darby Hawtrey and
Ashlee Adler each ended the night with 11 kills.
Kaylynn Murray had a season-high 37 assists for the Spartans.
Payton Uptagraft and Hawtrey each led the Spartans with two blocks.
The Spartans now move to 9-10 overall and 3-1 in conference play to sit third in the conference standings through four games.
