Vincent Scores, Spartans Draw With Dutch 1-1

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team held their American Rivers Conference home opener on Saturday afternoon facing the Central College Dutch at Oyen Field. The Spartans and Dutch held each other out of the scoring column in an even first half, before the Spartans would strike on a free kick to give them the 1-0 lead. The visiting Dutch would answer quickly and tie the score at 1-1 forcing a draw.

The opening half would be about as even as you could make it as both the Spartans and Dutch ended the half with eight shots. The Spartans had four corner kick opportunities compared to only one for the Dutch, but the Spartans were not able to get a good look on the corners. The second half was a back and forth battle for both offenses and the Spartans had some great looks to score including a shot off the side bar. The Spartans would be driving down the field in the 78th minute when they would be fouled by the opposition. Riley Trudeau would then take the free kick into the box and Baylee Vincent used her head to push the ball past the goalie to take the lead 1-0. What seemed like Vincent's potential winning goal, the Dutch answered four minutes later off a break away to even the score 1-1. Neither side would score again as the Spartans draw for the sixth time this season to bring their record to 0-0-2 in A-R-C play and 3-1-6 overall.

Five Spartans comprised of the 18 shots taken in the game as Alyssa Tranchita led the team six shots. Emma Kober was accurate with her five kicks as four came on goal. The rest of the Spartans shots came from Trudeau (4), Vincent (2), and Wiegand (1). Spartans ousted the Dutch in corner kicks with nine opportunities whereas the Dutch were held to five. Elisa Langer continues to be good in goal giving up the one goal and collecting five saves.
