Women's Basketball Beat #15 Wartburg in Overtime

WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's basketball team missed a couple of late chances to claim a regulation victory, but would capture the overtime road victory over the #15-ranked Wartburg College Knights 68-62. The last time the Spartans won against the Knights was Jan. 10, 2015 by an 80-54 score, UD last won at Wartburg on Feb. 5, 2014 by a 60-40 mark. The Knights hold the edge 24-67 in overall matchups.

A balanced scoring attack helped the Spartans knock off the top-ranked nights on their home court on Wednesday.The American Rivers Conference Player of the Week, Tabria Thomas, led UD's offense with 15 points and six assists. Miah Smith trailed by finishing the night with 14 points, nine rebounds, four steals, amd two blocks. Isabella Tierney finished with 12 points, teammate Maddie Monge came off the bench and had 12 points and two rebounds.

UD made 27-68 shots from the field (39.7%), sank 6-16 from three point area (37.5%), and the Spartans missed two free throws with less than a second on the clock to win the game and were 8-16 at the line. UD out rebounded the Knights 52-48 and were missing starter Allison Bailey who sat out with an injury.

UD posted their third win in a row and stopped the six-game win streak by the Knights who hadn't lost a game in 2022.

The Spartans return home on Saturday, Jan. 29 to host the Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) Prairiewolves at 2:00 p.m. Buena Vista beat NWU on Wednesday by a 63-45 margin.
