WAVERLY, Iowa – The University of Dubuque Spartan women's soccer team took the road this weekend for a Saturday afternoon American Rivers Conference opening matchup with the #13 Wartburg College Knights. The Spartans were looking to upset the Knights and get their first conference win on the year. UD scored the first goal of the game, a rare feat against the Knights. They have allowed just four goals this season, have never allowed more than one, and their defense have five shutouts.
The Spartans would start out the game strong, scoring the first goal of the game in the 23
rd minute by
Jordan Cadena, assisted by
Emma Kober to give the Spartans the early 1-0 lead. Shortly after, the Knights would answer with a goal of their own and tie the game at 1-1. From there it was all Knights as they would go on to beat the Spartans 1-4. The Knights held the Spartans in check all night to only two shots on goal and no corner kicks for the game.
Cadence Martindale would take the loss in goal and would record five saves.
The Spartans are on the road again next week as they travel up the road on Wednesday, September 29 to take on the Pioneers of UW-Platteville at 7:00 p.m.
