DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's soccer team was limited to just six shots on Wednesday night and fell victim to a first half lone goal in a 1-0 loss to the Loras College Duhawks.
In just the 11
th minute, Loras broke into the scoring off a set throw in piece. A long throw in from Brynn Jacobi found the head of Ryleigh O'Brien, which found the head of Emily Perhats at the six-yard box and ended up in the net to put the visitors ahead 1-0 early. The Spartans withstood 12 other first half shots from the Duhawks in the opening half to stay within striking distance at halftime.\
UD had two shots on goal on the night and both came in the moments following Loras' opening goal. Just 24 seconds after Loras took the 1-0 lead,
Meghan Moorman fired off a shot but it was hauled in, in the bottom left corner of the net. Five minutes later,
Molly Schiltz got a shot on net but she was also stifled. Arguably UD's best scoring chance of the day came in the 64
th minute, when
Brooke Brodzinski broke loose for a fast break but her shot sailed high and UD would fail to another get shot off.
Victoria Roethler was fantastic in the net for UD, keeping the Spartans in the contest despite the unlucky early goal and facing 22 shots. Roethler would end the night with nine saves.
The Spartans are right back at home on Saturday, hosting Central College with a 1 p.m. kickoff.
