LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team found their stride on Saturday afternoon on their way to a 5-2 road victory at Nebraska Wesleyan.
On just the second shot of the game and their first shot of the game, Nebraska Wesleyan broke the scoring open on the 14th minute of the game to put UD in an early 1-0 hole. The Spartans were held without a shot for nearly 25 minutes but they ended that drought in a big way with a goal off the foot of
Brooke Brodzinski in the 30th minute. Just eight minutes later Brodzinksi did not waste much time, firing another goal into the lower center portion of the net to put UD ahead 2-1 in the 38th minute, where the score would hold until halftime.
After two straight scoreless contests, the UD offense would continue their breakout in the second half with Brodzinksi's third goal in the 55th minute off of a pass from
Mary Herra. The Prairie Wolves cut into the lead in the 72nd minute but the Spartans would respond quickly when
Alexis Turner got her first goal of the season just 90 seconds later to give UD a cushion once again.
Brodzinksi would cap her impressive day in the 81st minute with her fourth goal of the game, this time from
Isabelle Robinson, putting the cherry on top of the Spartans first conference win of the spring season for a 5-2 win.
Victoria Roethler would pick up four saves in 90 minutes. UD would control most aspects, taking 19 shots to NWU's 10 and winning the corner kick battle 9-2.
The Spartans return home to host crosstown rival Loras College on Wednesday at 5 pm. No general admission will be allowed.
