Women's Soccer Opens Spring with 3-1 Win at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team waited 491 days between days and the Spartans did not disappoint in their return, coming away with a 3-1 road win over the Benedictine Eagles. 

UD came out on the attack and drew a penalty in the box in the 12th minute, where Brooke Brodzinski would convert on the penalty kick to give the Spartans the quick 1-0 lead. Nearly three minutes leter, Isabelle Robinson would find Baylee Vincent for the Spartans second goal and a 2-0 lead before the game was 15 minutes old. Benedictine would then hold the Spartans without a shot for the next 20 minutes, while getting a goal of their own in the 36th minute to bring the score to 2-1 at halftime.

The UD attack would find its rhythm again coming out of halftime, firing off 11 shots in the first 22 minutes of the second half but could not find the back of the net. That was until the 85th minute, when Baylee Vincent picked up her second goal. This time coming off of a pass from Meghan Moorman, to give the Spartans an insurance goal and sealing the season opening win.. 

The Spartans controlled a majority of the game, taking 21 shots to Benedictine's four and had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. 

Victoria Roethler played all 90 minutes in the net for UD, seeing just two shots on net with one save.

UD will have some time before their next contest, which will be their home opener on March 24 against Concordia Chicago
