DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team hosted their final home game of 2021 tonight, facing off against the UW-Stout Blue Devils. The Spartans were looking to send the UD faithful out with one final win of the year, but were unable to stop the hot shooting Blue Devils as they would fall 89-80. 

The Spartans and Blue Devils would start the game by trading baskets for the first 10 minutes of the first half before the Blue Devils would go on a 11-2 run to gain a 30-20 lead. The Spartans were able to cut the deficit to eight by halftime trailing 38-30 at the break. In the second half, would come out strong as they found themselves in the lead 50-49 before the Blue Devils would light it up from 3-point range shooting 55% in the second half to pull away for the victory. 

The Spartans would shoot well in the game shooting 45.2% from the field and shooting 44.8% from 3-point range, but the difference in the game was in the fast break points as the Blue Devils would get 36 fast break points whereas the Spartans would only manage six. The Spartans were led in scoring tonight by Peter Ragen with 17 and Jaylin McCants would follow with 14 of his own. Sam Kilburg dished out seven assists and Levi Scheuermann grabbed seven boards. 

The Spartans next contest will be this Saturday, December 11 at 4:00 p.m. on the road against the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairiewolves. The Spartans will not return back to the Stoltz Sports Center until January 12 against the Loras College Duhawks.
