STORM LAKE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team earned it's first victory in American Rivers Conference action tonight as they visited the Buena Vista Beavers. Defense was the story tonight as the Spartans would hold the Beavers to 19 points in the second half and 51 for the game as the Spartans would take the win 66-51. 

The Spartans in the first half would be tied with the Beavers early on at 14-14 before the Beavers went on a 9-1 run making the score 23-15. The Spartans were able to chip away at the lead, but would still trail at halftime 32-30. The second half the Spartans would be able to use a 20-2 run thanks to their team defensive play to give them a 56-39 advantage. The Spartans would continue to make it tough on the Beavers and would come out with their first A-R-C victory of the season.

The Spartans were led tonight by Peter Ragen who posted a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Dylan Anderson shot 4-6 from beyond the arc to end with 14 points. Levi Scheuermann added double figures in rebounds with 10. The Spartans were able to get plenty of production from their bench yet again with 27 points compared to just 13 points for the Beavers. 

The Spartans return home for another A-R-C matchup when they host the Central College Dutch on Saturday, December 4 at 4:00 p.m. The Spartans will be looking for their third straight victory and keeping the momentum going for the season.
