DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's basketball hosted the Wartburg College Knights in their American Rivers Conference home opener Tuesday night on Jon Davidson court. The Spartans ended last season with a perfect A-R-C record and the Spartans were looking to continue their streak against the Knights. The Knights would end that winning streak tonight after a big second half to win 77-73.
At the tip, the Spartans started sluggish and trailed 4-12 forcing an early Spartan timeout. UD would come out and take the lead and would hold the lead into the halftime break 37-32. The second half the Spartans started strong gaining their biggest lead of the night 54-46 forcing a Knight timeout. After the timeout the Knights would slowly chip away at the Spartan lead and ultimately took the victory in the end as the Spartans were unable to find any offense in the final minutes.
The Spartans were led by senior
Peter Ragen who would shoot 7-12 from the field and 17 points.
Brock Simon would shoot 70% from the field for 16 points.
Josh Hammer was all over the boards tonight fighting for nine rebounds. Second chance points helped the Spartans as they would grab 11 offensive boards for 14 points.
