DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque used a strong second half to pull away from a one point halftime deficit in a 79-62 non-conference win over Edgewood College. UD warmed up in the second half and shot 64.3% from the field and 75% from the three point arc to put the game away. The Spartans looked more like their old self in the final 20 minutes of play. They made the extra pass, found the open player, forced Edgewood into committing costly turnovers after the visitors led at the break 32-31.
UD was led by the duo of
Levi Scheuermann and
Peter Ragen who both finished with 17 points each.
Brock Simon added 14 points, six assists, four steals, and led in rebounding with eight including seven defensive grabs. The Spartans bench would add 21 points with
Josh Hammer giving the spark with eight points in 24 minutes of action.
In the final home tune-up before the Spartans open American Rivers Conference play on Nov. 23 against Wartburg College, UD scored 20 points off turnovers, 11 second chance points, and 44 points in the paint. UD out rebounded the Eagles 34-24 and held them to just three offensive boards.
The A-R-C opens league play on Thanksgiving week. The Spartans women's team tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the men's game following at 7:30 p.m.
