DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Spartan women's soccer team took to Oyen Field on Saturday and played to a complete game shutout in a 3-0 victory over the Nebraska Wesleyan Prairiewolves on Saturday afternoon.
In the first half, the Spartans were in their attacking third for most of the first half and were able to make the Prairiewolves uncomfortable and not let them play their style. The Spartans would take an early lead in the first half as
Baylee Vincent would score in the 22
nd minute from the assists of
Brooke Brodzinski and
Emma Kober. The Spartans would march a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
In the second half, it was much of the same as the Spartans would control the ball in their attacking third and would start the second half with a quick score from
Kailey Tyburski in the 47
th minute to take a 2-0 lead. The Spartans would add another goal in the 56
th minute from
Baylee Vincent, her second of the afternoon, to make the score 3-0 Spartans. The score would remain the same and the Spartans notched their first conference win in dominating fashion.
The Spartans would finish the game with 17shots with nine being on goal. They would finish the day ith nine corner kicks. Karissaw Chalus was in goal tonight for the first time this season and would finish with four saves and earned her first shutout of the season.
The Spartans return to the pitch on Wednesday, October 6 as they travel down the road to face in-town rival Loras at 5:00 p.m.
