DUBUQUE, IA – It was homecoming on the campus of the University of Dubuque and the Spartan volleyball team took the court Saturday morning after a game last night in which they would fall 3-2 to Augustana College. The Spartans would welcome the Falcons of UW-River Falls to town and the Falcons would go into Stoltz Sports Center and defeat the Spartans in four sets (25-19, 21-25, 20-25, 18-25).
The Spartans would start the first set off on the right note as they would take an early 1-0 lead after a 25-19 first set victory in which the Spartans were able to hit well with a .341 percentage. After the first set, the Spartans would struggle to hit well as the Falcons were able to take the next three sets to win the match 3-1.
The Spartans would be led tonight by
Emma Powell and
Darby Hawtrey who would record 14 and 13 kills respectively.
Alexis Bedier would add eight.
Kate Messino had another great night and would tally 43 assists on the night.
The Spartans return to action next Friday, October 22 as Buena Vista University makes a trip to Dubuque. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. start time.
