DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team starts their last home stand of the 2021 season this weekend with two very important games which could dictate their seeding for the upcoming American Rivers Conference (A-R-C) tournament. The Spartans started the weekend off by playing host to Buena Vista University Beavers inside Stoltz Sports Center where they would sweep the Beavers 3-0 for the win. (25-21, 26-24, 25-17)

The Spartans needed to get off to a hot start tonight and they would do exactly that as the Spartans would grab an early 13-5 lead to force a Beaver timeout. The Beavers would respond, and they would get it as close as 23-21 before the Spartans would seal the first set victory 25-21. Set two would be a back-and-forth battle between both teams where there would be four lead changes and eight tied scores. The set would go into deuces where the Spartans would take the set 26-24. Looking for the sweep, the Spartans would jump out in the third set with a quick 10-5 lead forcing a Beaver timeout. The Spartans would not surrender the lead and would put the Beavers away 25-17 to take the match.

The Spartans were led tonight by Emma Powell who had 13 kills and Darby Hawtrey added 12. Kate Messino led the way with 34 assists. The Spartans hit .209 as a team tonight on the attack.

The Spartans play their last home game tomorrow, October 23 as they look for another victory in their final A-R-C match when they host the Nebraska Wesleyan University Prairiewolves at 12:30 p.m. on Jon Davison Court.
