DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball opened their 2020-21 season at home on Sunday in front of a limited crowd and captured the contest with a 99-69 victory over the Edgewood College Eagles.The game had a different look with the crowd on hand limited to two parents of student-athletes and lacked the noise from a capacity crowd the Spartans have been used to.
UD's
Patrick Mayfield finished the opening half with a game leading 13 points and would finish the afternoon leading all scorers with 22 points. He sank 9-15 shot attempts and was perfect at the free throw line 3-3. Senior
Peter Ragen would end with 15 points and
Keegan Zimmerman would come off the bench to add 11 points in the Spartans victory. The Spartans would shoot 38-66 from the field for 57.6% and held the Eagles to .49% (25-51). UD connected on 9-16 balls from beyond the three point area (56.3%).
The Spartans were able to score 26 points off the Eagles errors and added 15 points off second chance points. UD led in the game for 38:31 of the 40 minutes. Fourteen Spartans saw action in the opener and 13 would finish with points on the board for head coach

UD moves to 1-0 overall and will host the North Central University Rams (MN) on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 5 p.m.
