Men's Basketball Cruise to 98-68 Victory at Home

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque improved to 2-0 with a 98-68 victory over the North Central University Rams on Wednesday evening. The Spartans led after the first half 45-32 after making 14-31 shot attempts (45.2%). UD would take advantage of Rams turnovers and score 16 points and would lead in second chance points 18-9. Both teams worked the ball in the paint with UD holding a slim edge 32-26. The Spartans bench would add 25 points in the lopsided victory.

Peter Ragen would lead all scorers with 22 points, he would sink 11-12 free throw attempts as UD shot 76.5% (26-34 attempts). Patrick Mayfield trailed Ragen by just a point with 21 points after dropping 4-5 attempts from beyond the three point arc. Starters Levi Scheuermann and Sam Kilburg would finish the night with 14 and 10 points respectively. Trent Fitzpatrick came off the bench to collect 10 points and three assists. It was the second game in a row where the Spartans would outscore their opponent by 30 points. Fifteen Spartans would see playing time with 11 of the 15 scoring for head coach Robbie Sieverding.

Rebounding was fairly balanced with UD leading 41-36 for the Rams. Ragen led all rebounding with eight defensive boards.The Spartans would turn the ball over just seven times, but forced the Rams into committing 14.

Saturday, January 16, the Spartans will host the Wartburg College Knights in a non-conference contest in Stoltz Sports Center at 2 p.m.
