Kasey Burst has been at the helm of the University of Dubuque men’s lacrosse team since 2016. A native of Syracuse, N.Y., he is the third coach in program history.
Over his last four seasons, Burst has compiled four straight 10+ winning seasons and has accounted for all five 10+ winning seasons in program history. After spending six years in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW), the Spartans made the jump to the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC) in 2022. Recently, the Spartans joined the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) where they finished second with a 9-2 league record and made it to the semifinals of the league tournament in their first season.
In his seventh season, Burst led the Spartans to a school record 12 wins and a perfect 6-0 mark in the MLC in their inaugural 2022 season. He led the Spartans to their first ever regular season and tournament championships in program history, which led to their first ever trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Tournament. The Spartans were the first team in the state of Iowa to compete in the NCAA Championships for men’s lacrosse.
Burst was named MLC Coach of the Year in 2022 and over his 10 seasons he has coached two conference offensive players of the year as well as a three-time conference defensive player of the year. Over his tenure he has coached 36 all-conference players as well as a three-time Division III All-American.
Burst came to UD from Clarke University where he spent the 2014-2015 academic year building Clarke’s men’s and women’s inaugural lacrosse programs. Prior to Clarke, Burst spent three years as first assistant coach for Division III Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., where the Golden Knights compiled a 26-19 overall record from 2012-2014. He helped lead Clarkson to back-to-back Liberty League Tournament appearances in 2012 and 2013. In 2013, Clarkson advanced to the Liberty League championship game before falling to eventual national runner-up, Rochester Institute of Technology.
Burst is a 2010 graduate of NCAA Division I Mount St. Mary's University (MD), where he earned two Bachelor of Arts Degrees in International Studies and Spanish, as well as a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. During his time as a defenseman at the Mount, he appeared in 37 career games, and was named to the conference’s All-Academic team three times. Burst is a member of two conference championship teams in 2010 (Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) and 2011 (Northeast Conference).
