Miles Hookstead joined the Spartans staff in 2013 and will be entering his 10th season with the program as a coach. His time on the staff has been spent coaching the Offensive Line (2013), Wide Receivers (2014-2015, 2018-2021), Running Backs (2016-2017), Defensive Line (Spring 2019) and Tight Ends (Spring 2022). He was named Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach in 2021.
During his tenure, Hookstead coached multiple All-Conference selections along with All-Region and All-American recognitions. Under his coaching guidance, former and current players have cracked into the Top 10 of numerous statistical categories throughout the UD Record Book.
A University of Dubuque graduate, Hookstead was a two-sport athlete participating in football and basketball. He was a four-year starter on the football team at tight end from 2009-2012. He was a key member of the 2011 team that won the Iowa Conference Championship and earned a berth in the Division III playoffs. In 2012, he was named First Team All-Iowa Conference and Third Team BSN All-American. He was also chosen Second Team All-Iowa Conference and Third Team D3football.com All-Region in 2011. Hookstead was a two-year starter on the basketball team at center and played from 2009-2013. The 2013 team won the Iowa Conference Tournament Championship to earn a place in the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
A standout on the field and in the classroom, Hookstead earned Academic All-Iowa Conference six times (3-football, 3-basketball) while also being inducted to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. He was also chosen First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District in 2011 and 2012, First Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2011, and Second Team Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American in 2012.
Hookstead was inducted into the UD Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022 for his accomplishments and in 2023 as a member of the 2011 football team.
Hookstead earned his bachelor’s degree from UD in spring 2013 where he majored in Health, Wellness, and Recreation with minors in Business and Coaching. He also holds a graduate degree from Upper Iowa University in Sports Administration with an emphasis in Coaching/Leadership.
He resides in Dubuque with his wife, Kelsey and sons, Wesley, Kameron. and twins Treyson and Braylon.
