Vic Popp joined UD in 2005. He is the the director and leads a staff which consists of an assistant director, a graduate assistant, and six part-time fitness instructors and over 100 students. He is also an adjunct instructor for the Health, Wellness & Sport department teaching activity courses which include trail running, yoga, fly fishing, pickleball, racquetball and disc golf. In addition, he is a certified yoga instructor and teaches academic and recreational classes at UD. He's also a certified first aid/cpr and aed instructor as well.
Vic coach's the bass fishing club on campus. A student-driven organization which began at UD in 2011 and has been ranked among the collegiate fishing teams in the U.S. UD finished 7th at the 2015 Carhartt College National Championship, placed 12th in the 2016 Cabela’s School of the Year competing against over 250 collegiate teams throughout the season. Also, the team was the Bassmaster College State Champions in 2018.
The Spartan squad is made up of men and women who enjoy competing with their peers in a national setting. Anglers compete in local, regional, and opportunities to advance to the national championship. Anglers shall, at all times, conduct themselves in a manner becoming of professional anglers that will not reflect unfavorably on the University of Dubuque, its members, officers or representatives, tournaments or sponsors. To this end, anglers, coaches, advisors, parents, and family members shall use their best efforts to demonstrate professionalism and integrity in support of the sport of professional fishing.
Anglers are frequently in the public eye and are considered role models; therefore, it is imperative Spartans tournament competitors demonstrate good sportsmanship in fishing. Sportsmanship is defined as fair play, respect for opponents and polite behavior while competing in the sport of bass fishing.
