OSHKOSH, Wis. - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team went up to Wisconsin to compete against UW-Oshkosh in the 151 Derby Saturday afternoon. In rainy conditions, the Spartans fell to the Titans 2-0 after a strong defensive effort.
The first half saw the Spartans and Titans deadlocked, fending off attempt after attempt while pushing for the counterattack. UD's best chances came around the midway point of the half, with a shot from Claire Husnick saved and shots by Olivia Roth and Rylie Mensik blocked. Late in the first period, the Spartans had a tight handball called against them inside the box, awarding a penalty to the Titans. Despite a stiff defensive effort in the first half, UD went into halftime down 1-0 off of the penalty.
The Spartans remained patient in the second half, still looking to strike fast when opportunities presented themselves. Samantha Jurgens made multiple great saves throughout the game, highlighted by a save off a tough volley shot in the 61st minute. In the 66th minute, the Titans made it 2-0. Claire Husnick had another shot attempt off a free kick, which was saved in the 77th minute of the game, as the final score ended 2-0 at full time.
Samantha Jurgens led the Spartans in goal with six saves. Claire Husnick led the team with two shot attempts, while Olivia Roth and Rylie Mensik each had one.

The Spartans will have nearly a week before their next game on Friday, September 25, at UW-Eau Claire. The game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, at Simpson Field.
