DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque baseball team fell 7-6 to Loras College in their series opener on Tuesday.
The first three innings remained quiet offensively as neither team pushed across a run. The Spartans scored in the fourth on a single by Tanner Simmons and extended their lead to two the next inning when Alex Esser executed a safety squeeze, scoring Ryan Turner. Loras took the lead in the seventh inning by plating four runs and stretched their lead to five in the top of the ninth inning. Despite a comeback attempt where the Spartans scored four runs, they stranded the tying run at second base in the ninth, falling 7-6. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed to April 21 due to potential storms in the area.
