DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque welcomed the Loras College Duhawks on Saturday for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Strikeout for Cancer game on the UD Softball Field. In the most unique arrival of a game ball, the ball was flown in by helicopter courtesy of UD Aviation Department in centerfield for the afternoon's first pitch. Saturday the two teams played for more than wins and losses - we played for hope, strength, and everyone impacted by cancer. Throwing out the first pitch was Everett Redman, four-year-old son of UD Assistant Baseball Coach, Andrew Redman and wife Jordan. Everett was diagnosed with a brain tumor in June 2023. Part of his tumor was removed in July 2023. He went through one year of chemotherapy post-surgery and is currently on a new treatment through Mayo Clinic until February 2027. His tumor is currently stable and he is enjoying being a four-year old.
