DAVENPORT, Fla. – The University of Dubuque baseball team returned to action after the off day with a game against Illinois College. The Blueboys won the pitchers' duel 2-0.
The first three innings saw multiple scoring opportunities for both teams, but the game remained scoreless after three. A couple of hits and an error allowed Illinois College to score two runs in the fourth, but Will Sullivan came in and struck out the final batter of the inning to limit the damage. In the fifth, the Spartans had bases loaded with two outs but couldn't deliver. In the final four frames, the Spartans only managed one baserunner, which was a two-out single in the ninth by Johnathan Snavely. The next batter struck out and the Spartans fell 2-0.
Dominic Pelizza started the game for the Spartans, tossing 3.2 innings in his first career start. The sidewinder allowed three hits and two earned runs while striking out and walking four. Sullivan threw the next three innings, only allowing two hits and striking out three. Vic Pico threw the final 2.1 frames, allowing three hits and striking out three. Ashr Harris collected two of the Spartans' five hits while Tanner Simmons walked twice.
