LA CROSSE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque softball team lost the road doubleheader to the UW-La Crosse Eagles on Monday afternoon by scores of 7-5 and 5-2. The Spartans scored five runs off five hits and committed two errors while the host Eagles scored seven runs off five hits and committed six errors in the opener. In game two, UD scored two runs off nine hits and committed two errors as the Eagles scored five runs off five hits and committed an error.
Zoe Connell led the offense in the opener, going 2-3 and scoring twice. A trio of Spartans at the top of the line-up finished with an RBI each:
Kaitlyn Powell, Payton Santore, and
Anna Luczak.
Ciaran Rigby faced 30 batters and tossed six innings, took the loss, allowed five hits, five earned runs with 3K's and four walks.
In the second game,
Amber Wisely was credited with a third of the teams hits after going 3-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Lauren Jacobs was 2-4 with a double and an RBI and
Kaitlyn Powell was 2-4 with double and a run scored.
Zoe Connell was 1-4 with a double, but was left on base four times in the loss.
Skylar Zoeteman faced 26 batters and took the loss after six innings, 2K's, and five hits with just one earned run.
The Spartans return home to host a doubleheader against the Luther College Norse on Wednesday, April 1 (Teacher Appreciation Day) on the UD Softball Field beginning at 2:00 p.m. UD will travel down highway 20 to play doubleheader in Storm Lake, Iowa vs. the Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday, April 4 beginning at 1:00 p.m. UD will face the #13-ranked Simpson College Storm in Indianola, Iowa on April 7 beginning at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 11 the Spartans host the Loras College Duhawks in a doubleheader on NFCA Strikeout Cancer Day and UD Alumni Day beginning at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12 the Spartans return to the road to play #20-ranked Central College Dutch in Pella, Iowa with doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m.Â
