BELOIT, Wis. - The University of Dubuque softball team collected a pair of road wins on Saturday afternoon with a 9-2 victory in the opener and a 13-0 blast in the night cap. UD finished with 24 hits on the afternoon including homeruns in game one by
Kaitlyn Powell (solo shot in the fourth inning) and
Jamie Motley (2 RBI homerun over left center in the sixth.)
UD scored nine runs off nine hits and committed two errors in the opener.
Megan Leick went 2-3 and
Kaitlyn Powell was 2-4 with an RBI. The Spartans finished with seven batters earning a hit and left seven runners on base.
Miranda Saylor tossed all seven innings and captured the win allowing just one earned run after facing 30 batters.
UD stopped game two after six innings and scored seven runs in the top of the sixth inning. Eight players ended with a hit and an RBI. UD's offense was led by
Kaitlyn Powell who was 3-3 with 2 RBI's,
Lauren Jacobs was 3-4 with 2 RBI's and the games only triple,
Amelia Bowden was 1-4, but compiled a pair of RBI's on a double. Kayla Punting led UD with two doubles and was hit by a pitch twice. UD left eight runners on base and Beloit stranded four runners on base.
Skylar Zoeteman faced just 22 batters in six innings allowing two hits, no runs and striking out seven to collect the win on the mound.
The Spartans (8-4 overall) return home on Sunday, March 22 to host the Blackburn College Beavers (8-8 overall) in a doubleheader with the first pitch scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on the UD Softball Field. Blackburn lost a doubleheader to Wheaton College on Saturday by 10-8 and 12-10.
