DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's soccer team concluded their season Saturday night in the A-R-C Championship. In a hard-fought battle with few chances for either side, the Spartans fell 2-0 to the Simpson College Storm.
Appearing in their sixth conference championship game in program history, the Spartans matched the Storm's pace in the first half. The half was nearly perfectly balanced, with each side having one corner kick, four shots, and one shot on goal. The Spartans' chance came in the 13th minute when Olivia Roth took a shot after dribbling around the defenders.
In the second half, chances remained infrequent for both sides. UD nearly found the back of the net on a few breaks, with solid crosses into the box that narrowly missed their intended targets, with a Storm defender getting to the ball first. Unfortunately for the Spartans, the Storm capitalized on the few chances they got, scoring twice to take a 2-0 lead. A late strike from Bree Swenson nearly brought UD right back into the match, but the attempt was saved.
At the full-time whistle, the Spartans' season concluded with a record of 10-6-3, their first consecutive 10+ win seasons since the 2018-19 seasons.
