PELLA, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team opened American Rivers Conference play with a 3-0 sweep over Central College on Friday night (25-13, 25-22, 27-25). The Spartans improve to 17-4 overall and 1-0 in conference.
The Spartans came out strong in the opening set, hitting .483 with 16 kills to secure a 25-13 victory. UD carried that momentum into the second set, holding off Central to take the set 25-22 and build a 2-0 advantage in the match.Â
Central came out strong in the third set, building a 16-13 advantage before the Spartans battled back to tie the set at 17-17. The two teams continued to trade points down the stretch, with Central reaching set point at 24-23 and again at 25-24. UD responded with a kill from
Caitlin Jensen followed by a kill from
Alexis Kammerer to tie the set at 25-25.
Chloe Reiser then delivered back-to-back service aces to complete the comeback and secure the 27-25 victory and the sweep.Â
Delainey Winkel led the Spartans offensively with 19 kills while hitting .457 and adding seven digs.
Halee Clare followed with eight kills on an impressive .538 hitting percentage, while Reiser added eight kills and six digs.
Megan Cooley contributed six kills, while Kammerer directed the offense with 32 assists and seven digs.
Taylor Bechen led the defense with 16 digs.

The Spartans (16-4, 1-0 A-R-C) will travel to Lincoln, Nebraska, on Friday, October 16, to take on Nebraska Wesleyan University in the American Rovers conference. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Snyder Arena.Â
