Women's Hockey Supports Hockey Fights Cancer in Final Home Game of the Season

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's hockey played on home ice for the last time this season, wrapping up a two-game series with Lake Forest College. The game supported the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative to spread awareness of the cause. The Spartans kept it close, scoring late to bring it within one goal, but ended the game with a 2-1 loss to the Foresters.

The first and second periods are where Lake Forest scored. UD found multiple chances but were thwarted by the goalkeeper and the goalpost. In the final minute of the third period, the Spartans found themselves with a large advantage, playing six-on-four after pulling the goalkeeper and earning a power play. Dani Denhof played Natalie Meeder in space, where Meeder took the shot but had it saved only as far as Ashleigh Eldridge, who picked it up square in front of the goal and put it in the back of the net. It was Eldridge's third goal of the season.

The Spartans were led by goalscorer Ashleigh Eldridge, assisted by Natalie Meeder and Dani Denhof. Madilynn Schiile led the team with seven shots, closely followed by Meeder and Alexandria Simmons, who both had six shots. Zoe Cupples and Natalie Post both had 11 wins in faceoffs to lead the team.
