SAINT PETER, Minn. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team fell 6-1 to Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon. The Spartans will return to action in two weeks against MSOE.
The first period began slowly for both teams, with the match staying scoreless until the Golden Gusties scored twice late in the period. The Spartans registered eight shots but couldn't find the net as they trailed 2-0 after twenty minutes. Early in the second, the Spartans drew within one as
Nikita Borodaenko took a rebound after a shot from
Kaden Dundas and found the net in the fifth minute. Gustavus extended their lead back to two goals three minutes later on a power play. The Golden Gusties scored another power play goal with two minutes left to take a 4-1 lead into the second intermission. Gustavus scored twice in the third period as the Spartans fell 6-1.
Borodaenko scored once on seven shots while also winning eight face-offs.
Zach Cline recorded an assist and registered four shots on goal, while also blocking three shots. Dundas recorded an assist and
Nolan Underwood won seven face-offs for the Spartans. In goal,
Prestyn Carter made 41 saves in just under 60 minutes.

The Spartans will play a split series against conference foe MSOE January 16-17. Both games will start at 7:00 p.m., with the first contest being on the road and the second match being played at ImOn Arena.
