Dale Scores First Career Goal, Mitchell Perfect in Shootout as Men's Hockey Claims Shootout Victory Over Raiders

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team battled to a 3-3 tie with the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday night. Dazza Mitchell made all three saves in the shootout as the Spartans won the shootout 1-0.

Owen Hardy started the game with a bang, finding the net 95 seconds in off assists from Zach Burfoot and Nikita Borodaenko to give the Spartans an early 1-0 lead. Tyler Dale scored his first career goal on a power-play off a pass from Andon Coles in the seventh minute, extending the Spartans' lead to two. Just after the Spartans killed a penalty, MSOE cut the deficit to one and the Spartans would maintain a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

Both teams took flurries of shots in the second period, but the score remained steady for the first 18 minutes. With 90 seconds remaining, Dale tallied his second point, connecting with Thomas Gazich as Coles found the net, extending the lead to 3-1. The Raiders added two goals early in the third period. As the clock ticked down, the Spartans committed a penalty, giving the Raiders a power-play at the beginning of overtime. The Spartans blocked four shots in the overtime period and killed the penalty and the game officially ended in a 3-3 tie. Mitchell made all three saves and Borodaenko converted on his shootout attempt, giving the Spartans a 1-0 shootout win.

Dale scored his first career goal and added an assist on the evening. Coles tallied a goal and an assist while blocking two shots. Hardy added his fifth goal of the season during the contest. Burfoot won six of his seven face-offs and added an assist on Friday while also blocking three shots. Gazich blocked a shot and assisted Dale's first career goal. Borodaenko kept his points streak alive with an assist and won nine face-offs. In goal, Mitchell made 25 saves across 28 attempts across sixty-five minutes. Mitchell stopped all three shots he faced during the shootout.
