Men's Hockey Outshoots Raiders in Series Finale Loss

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque men's hockey team returned home and battled in a chippy contest with the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday evening. The Raiders prevailed 4-0 in the series finale.

The Raiders scored in the fifth minute and added a second goal six minutes later to take a two-score lead heading into the first intermission. The Raiders extended their lead early in the second period with an even-strength goal. The Spartans had four power-plays in the final 21 minutes but could not convert, as the Raiders tacked on a goal in the third period. Despite outshooting the Raiders 30 to 27, the Spartans fell 4-0.

An incredibly physical game between the two squads led to numerous penalties throughout the contest. MSOE spent 14 minutes in the box on seven penalties, while the Spartans served six penalties for 12 minutes in the box. Both defenses withstood the numerous power-plays, as MSOE converted on just one of their five power-plays and the Spartans were held scoreless on six power-plays.

Jack Paweski led the Spartans with six shots on goal. Nikita Borodaenko contributed four shots on goal and won six face-offs. Eight other Spartans took multiple shots in the contest, but none found the net. Brandon Rossetti led the Spartans on defense with three blocked shots. In goal, Dazza Mitchell made 23 saves on 27 attempts in 60 minutes of game time.
