DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's basketball team fell to the Loras College Duhawks in the second meeting of the season 71-54, despite three Spartans scoring in double figures with
Christina Simonetti recording her seventh double double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds
The Spartans got out to an early 7-6 lead to open the game, but the Duhawks used a 12-0 run over the final 4:15 of the first quarter to take an 18-7 advantage. The Spartans held the Duhawks to just four made shots in the first 10 minutes, but nine fouls by the Spartans led to 10 made free throws for the Duhawks. In the second quarter, the Duhawks opened on a 9-0 run, before the Spartans finished the quarter with a 10-8 scoring advantage to trail at the half 35-17.
The Spartans were able to chip away at the deficit in the third quarter by shooting 61.5% from the field and had a great stretch in the quarter where they made seven out of eight shots.
Christina Simonetti scored 12 of her 15 points in the third quarter and
Karsyn Pankonen shot 3-4 from the field for her six points to boost the Spartans.
The Spartans cut the deficit all the way to 12 in the later stages of the third quarter but were unable to get any closer as the Spartans fell in the second regular season meeting against the Duhawks.
Simonetti recorded her seventh double double of the season and second in a row. She finished with 15 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Lilly Craig finished with 13 points on 5-10 shooting, while
Avery Green added 11 points and a team-high four assists.
