ADRIAN, Mich. - The University of Dubuque women's hockey team closed out a two-game weekend series with No. 7 Adrian on Saturday afternoon. Despite a third-period goal, the Spartans were unable to overcome the ranked Bulldogs, falling 6-1.
Seven minutes into the third period, UD took advantage of a power play to get down the ice, where Natalie Meeder passed the puck off to Alexandria Simmons, who rifled a shot from distance. The connection Simmons made with the puck was pure, and she put it into the top left corner of the net, giving the goalie no chance. The goal made the score 3-1.
Natalie Post led the team with four shots on goal, with Dani Denhof and Natalie Meeder each putting three on target. Post also led the team in faceoffs, winning 11 of her 21 attempts. Goalkeeper Emily Skanron made 41 saves, with the first period her busiest, when she made 16.
