Men's Basketball Slip Up at Kohawks

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque men's basketball team was unable to stop a red-hot shooting Coe College Kohawk team in an 85-74 loss on Wednesday night. Grady Thompson led the Spartans with 26 points.

The Spartans trailed 38-31 at the half as Coe's Cooper Nailor had 24 of the Kohawk's 38 first half points that helped them have a seven point lead at the half.

The Spartans got down by as many as 17 points (59-42) in the second half, but a 9-0 Spartans run in under three minutes got the Spartans back to within single digits at 59-51 with 11:25 remaining. The Spartans got to within six with 9:04 left and again with 6:16 left, but just could not get enough stops to close the gap on the Kohawks.

Thompson continued his dominant season with a 26-point outing. The junior guard knocked down four of the Spartans' seven three-poiinters tonight and was a perfect 8-8 at the free throw line. Joey Coppola IV scored 12 points off the bench, while Jacob Williams posted his 13th double-digit scoring game with 10 points. Josh Senica had a team-high 12 rebounds and Jalen Scott dished out seven assists, also a team-high tonight.

Hear from Robbie Sieverding
"Coe played really well and we didn't guard their actions well enough tonight. Grady kept us in the game, but we just couldn't get enough stops tonight. Josh had a solid game on the glass for us tonight and we will need him and others to step up as we move through conference play."

The Spartans drop to 10-5 this season and 3-3 in conference play.

Up Next
The Spartans will return home to take on the Simpson College Storm at 4:00 p.m. from the Stoltz Sports Center. Saturday will also be Alumni Day for the men's basketball team.
