LINCOLN, Neb. - Christina Simonetti recorded her third straight double-double on Saturday afternoon in a 64-59 loss on the road at Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Felicity Figlinski started the game off strong for the Spartans with a three-pointer on the games' opening possession. NWU would lead 5-3, but three consecutive scoring possessions by the Spartans put them back in front 9-5. NWU would hold a one point lead through 10 minutes.
The Spartans would trail by as many as seven in the second quarter. Figlinski would score seven of her 10 points in the quarter that helped the Spartans bring the score back to 22-all with 4:39 left in the first half. NWU held a four-point advantage at the break.
In the third quarter, NWU built their biggest lead of the game at 49-36. With just 2:10 left in the third quarter, the Spartans ended on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 49-42. The Spartans continued the run into the fourth quarter with a three-pointer by
Karsyn Pankonen and a layup by
Taylor Martin had the Spartans to within two.
With the Spartans still trailing 56-51 with 3:42 remaining,
Grace Brumley used a 4-0 run by herself as the Spartans found themselves down just one. The Spartans made two buckets down the stretch, but NWU would make 5-6 at the free throw line to seal the game.
Simonetti recorded her third straight double-double and fifth of the season with a team-high 15 points and 14 rebounds (seven offensive). Brumley finished with 11 points off the bench and Figlinski also scored in double figures with 10.
Taylor Martin added eight points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
The Spartans fall to 4-10 overall and 2-3 in American Rivers Conference play.
