Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's Tennis Remains Unbeaten (5-0) with Saturday Sweep

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque women's tennis team captured the two match sweep on Saturday after beating Ripon College by a 5-2 final and kept their unbeaten streak alive when they took the 5-2 victory over Monmouth College to improve to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in American Rivers Conference. Head coach Chad Fenwick has the Spartans off to one of the best starts in school history.

The Spartans have not found the season easy going as injuries and illness have made the weekly line-ups tricky for Fenwick. The names in the line-up may have changed, but the outcome has been nothing, but wins. On Saturday, UD would capture the doubles point to jump out to a 1-0 lead in both matches. The Spartans would lose just two singles matches in each match. Powered by muffins, bagels, cookies, and rice krispy bars, the Spartans have quietly been the surprise of the fall after being picked to finish by the A-R-C coaches and now lead the standings and the first league team to compile five wins.

"We are excited about the potential of our young team," added Fenwick. "I feel like we are capable of being more competitive in the conference this year."

UD will get tested in a week when they face both the Wartburg College Knights and the Coe College Kohawks at home on September 13 before returning to A-R-C action against Buena Vista University on September 26 and Nebraska Wesleyan University the following day on September 27. The Spartans will closeout the fall season with three road matches against Luther College (Oct. 1), Simpson College (Oct. 3), and Central College (Oct 4).

The A-R-C Women's Tennis Individual Tournament will be played October 10-11 at Clark Racquet Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Coe College will host the tournament.
