#23 Volleyball Cruises in Sweep over Augustana (Ill.)

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Dubuque women's volleyball team breezed past Augustana College (Ill.) on Tuesday evening, recording a 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-13) sweep. The #23 Spartans stifled the Vikings' offense, recording nine blocks and holding the visiting Vikings to a .000 hitting percentage on Jon Davison Court.

Augustana started the match off hot, taking a quick 10-6 lead early in the first set. Emily Collins recorded her first career block and added a kill to spur a five-point run which gave the Spartans an 11-10 edge. The Vikings powered ahead, taking the lead back and extending their lead to five thanks to a flurry of kills from the women up front. However, the Vikings struggled with accuracy and watched their lead dwindle away thanks to attacking errors and timely kills by the Spartans. The Spartans grabbed 12 of the final 16 points to secure the first set victory 25-22. UDjumped out early in the second set and repeatedly held off advances from the Vikings. The Spartans trailed once in the set and the set was controlled by the Spartans much more than the 25-23 score would suggest. The third set was dominated by the Spartans. The pressure applied by the Spartans' defense contributed to a Vikings offense that hit -0.183 in the final set. The Spartans cruised to a 25-13 set victory and secured the 3-0 sweep.

Delainey Winkel led the Spartans offense with nine kills during the match. Megan Cooley added six kills in the victory. Alexis Kammerer compiled 19 assists on the evening. On defense, Taylor Bechen recorded 21 digs to pace the Spartans. Christina Anderson and Halee Clare made it difficult for the Vikings hitters all evening as Anderson tallied five block assists and Clare recorded four block assists and a solo block.
