DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque won their road opener at the Loras College Duhawks on Tuesday afternoon by a 4-3 final. The Spartans last win against the Duhawks was in the 2016-17 school year when they captured the victory 5-4 at Loras.
The in nearly ideal weather conditions in early September, UD's victory improved the Spartans overall record to 3-0 to start the 2025-26 school year for head coach
Chad Fenwick. UD dropped the duals point after leading in all three duals early in the match. UD won the #1 doubles with
Molly Jex and
Sarah Wilde dominating the set 6-1.Â
In singles play,
Adriana Benavente at #2 singles won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Jayda Floyd won 6-4, 6-4 to take UD's second team point at #3 singles.
Sarah Wilde won #4 singles 6-0, 0-6, 7-5 for UD's third team point. The crowd surrounded the final two matches and witnessed a challenging match at #5 singles with the match ending in a super tie break.
Maddie Brosnahan won first set 7-5, lost set two by a 2-6 final. Brosnahan won the third set 7-6 (5) and helped UD capture the match as the sun was setting.
Rachel Duck lost at #6 singles 6-4, 6-2.
The undefeated Spartans will host three matches on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 6). UD faces Ripon College on Frank Farber Tennis Courts at 9:00 a.m. Ripon College will play Monmouth College following the conclusion of the opening match (around 11:30 a.m.). UD will play the Monmouth College Fighting Scots at 2:30 p.m.
