LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Dubuque baseball team was unable to pick up the series win at Nebraska Wesleyan after dropping both games (6-4, 4-3) of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
In game one of the doubleheader today the Spartans had a 3-1 lead through 6.5 innings. NWU would score five runs in the next two innings to win 6-4 in the opener. In the series finale, the Spartans didn't have a hit through the first five innings, but would finally come through in the top of the sixth as
Zavion Ingram hit a triple. After trailing 4-1 into the seventh inning, the Spartans threatened in the inning with three hits and even had the bases loaded with nobody out. The Spartans were only able to manage two runs in the inning, still trailing 4-3. The Spartans only had two bases runners in the final two innings.
Aidan Elfering went 5-9 at the plate today with an RBI and a double.
Daniel Maller was 3-5 and added two stolen bases.
Alex Esser was 2-2 with an RBI in game one of the doubleheader.
The Spartans are now 11-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
