DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team finished their series with the (RV) Buena Vista University Beavers on Saturday morning. With the game tied in the eighth inning,
Justin Hausner would deliver the game-winning two-run homerun to win the series 2-1 over the Beavers.
Both the Beavers and Spartans would score an unearned run in the first inning after a combined four errors in the inning to start the game. The Spartans took a 2-1 lead in the third inning after three consecutive hits was capped off by
Tyson Dent's RBI single to right center. The Beavers tied the game at 2-2 in the fifth after a lead off triple would score on an RBI single.
When it seemed like the game would be trending towards extra innings, the Spartans would pinch hit
Justin Hausner who a runner on first. Hausner would proceed to hit one of the biggest homeruns of the year to deep left field to send the Spartans into a frenzy, giving them a 4-2 lead.
Aidan Elfering pitched a complete nine inning game, allowing only nine hits and had 12 strikeouts. After the Spartans took the late lead, Elfering would retire the side in the top of the ninth inning to finish the game.
The Spartans are now 17-18 overall and 9-12 in conference play.
