WAVERLY, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team won the opening game of the doubleheader on Saturday against the Wartburg College Knights. The Knights won the series after an eighth inning comeback in the series finale today.
Will Sullivan has now hit two homeruns this week after a first inning homerun in game one that gave the Spartans a 3-0 lead right out of the gate. Sullivan's homerun would be one of four Spartan homeruns in game one of the doubleheader.
JD Schaffer went yard in the second inning, while
Aidan Elfering hit his eighth homerun of the season in the fifth and
Justin Hausner hit his first of the season in the seventh.
The Spartans scored eight runs in the first two innings of game two that was capped off by Elfering's second homerun of the day to lead 8-1. After the Spartans led 9-5 heading to the eighth inning, the Knights would score seven runs in the inning with a go ahead grand slam to give them the lead for good.Â
Elfering was 4-7 at the plate today with 3 RBIs.
Alex Esser was 3-3 in game two with a run scored.
Daniel Maller had two stolen bases today.Â
Josh Rogde picked up his second win of the season in game one, pitching two innings not allowing a run.Â
The Spartans are now 13-14 on the season and 5-8 in conference play.
