CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team lost Tuesday's road doubleheader to #16 ranked Coe College Kohawks. The Spartans captured the first of the series in a nine inning affair at Dan Runkle Baseball Field on March 25 by an 8-6 final. Tuesday, UD lost the American Rivers Conference doubleheader by scores of 4-3 and 8-6.
UD scored three runs off five hits and committed one error in the opener, the Kohawks scored four runs off seven hits and made two errors.
Charlie Jaeger took the loss after six innings, striking out six, allowed six hits and four earned runs.
Josh Rogde tossed the final two scoreless innings and struck out two.
UD had a trio of Spartans who finished with doubles:
Tyson Dent,
Vic Pico, and
Ashr Harris. Pico would finish wth two of the Spartans three RBI's after going 2-3 at the plate. The Spartans stranded five runners on base as their defense turned one double play and forced the hosts to leave 10 runners on base.
In the final game of the series, UD scored six runs off 11 hits and committed an error as the Kohawks scored eight runs on 17 hits.
Jake Cekander started took the loss after throwing the first three innings, fanned three batters and allowed two earned runs after facing 20 batters.
Aidan Elfering came in for relief and tossed the next three innings, striking out four batters and allowing two earned runs after facing 14 Kohawks.
JD Schaffer finished out the final two innings and struck out two and allowed one earned run.
UD's offense was highlighted by
Cameron Pratt who homered to left field in the top of the eighth for a two RBI hit.
Justin Potts finished with a double and a triple in his two at bats.
Zavion Ingram had a double and a sac fly. The Spartans left nine runners on base and the Kohawks stranded 10 runners on base. UD's record doesn't represent how well the team has played in 2025, the Spartans have been bitten in close games, losing 11 games by three runs or less this season.
UD (13-16 overall, 5-10 in A-R-C) continues conference action when they host the Luther College Norse (11-18 overall, 7-9 in A-R-C) in a single game on April 18 at 3:00 p.m. and a doubleheader on April 19 beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Dan Runkle Baseball Field.
