PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - The University of Dubuque softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday to the UW-Platteville Pioneers, losing the opener 6-5 and the second 6-0.
UD grabbed five runs off seven hits and committed a season hgh five errors in the opening game. UW-P scored six runs off nine hits and committed two errors. The Spartans led 1-0 through three innings before the Pioneers tied the game in the fourth. The host Pioneers grabbed the lead 2-1 through five innings. The offense woke up in the sixth and scored four runs before UW-P tied the game in the bottom of the inning when they scored three runs across home plate. UD was held scoreless in the seventh and UW-P led off the inning with a walk. A sac bunt advanced the runner to second base, a fly out advanced the runner to third base. A walk put two runners on base before a pitch hitter grabbed a single scoring a run and ending the game 6-5 in favor of the host Pioneers.
Kaitlyn Powell went 2-3 at the plate and had an RBI as teammate
Madison Taeger went 2-4 with an RBI and scored a run. A trio of Spartans finished with a double in the loss:

Ally Gullette took the loss after she went 6.2 innings and allowed just two earned runs after facing 37 batters.
In the second contest UD was held scoreless and finished with just four hits. The Pioneers scored six runs with nine hits and committed an error. Powell finished with the lone Spartan double and
Amber Wisely was 2-3 at the plate.
Ciaran Rigby tossed six innings and allowed five earned runs after facing 33 batters and took the loss.
UD (15-11 overall, 4-4 in American Rivers Conference) will travel to face the Coe College Kohawks (10-18 overall, 1-3 in A-R-C) on Saturday, April 12 on Clark Field in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
