Softball Continues A-R-C Play and Split with Kohawks on the Road

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The University of Dubuque hit the road to continue American Rivers Conference play on Saturday and would finish with a split against the Coe College Kohawks. UD struggled to find an offense in the opener, scoring one run off two hits while the Kohawks scored nine runs off 11 hits in the 9-1 victory in five innings. UD grabbed the win in game two after scoring two runs off six hits while holding the host Kohawks to one run in six hits. 

The Spartans scored twice in game two with two outs. Bella Allison hit a single to the pitcher. Kaitlyn Powell added a homerun in the next at bat for a two RBI lead and eventual game winning hit. The rest of the Spartans hits were all singles and UD would leave five runners on base. In the first game UD had just two hits and were highlighted by Audrey Morris who doubled to right field scoring Lauren Jacobs who reached first base on a walk.

Ally Gullette started the first game and took the loss after allowing 11 hits and six earned runs after facing 24 batters. Ciaran Rigby earned her seventh win on the mound after a complete seven inning victory in the nightcap. She allowed one earned run, struck out three after facing 26 batters.

The Spartans (16-12 overall, 5-5 in A-R-C) will travel to Decorah, Iowa to play the Luther College Norse (17-13 overall, 2-4 in A-R-C) on Wednesday, April 16 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. They were swept at home against the Wartburg College Knights by scores 6-4, 5-3 on Saturday, April 12.
