MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Dubuque softball team lost a pair of games on Tuesday after a hot 6-0 start to their season. UD jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) before allowing seven runs. Just two runs were earned in the 7-5 loss. In the nightcap, UD jumped to a 1-0 lead against Misericordia University before they led 4-1 until the 6th inning. The Spartans made a charge, but only collected one run in the rally and ended uo with a 4-2 loss.
Against Concordia-Moorhead UD scored five runs off 10 hits, but allowed four errors which led to five unearned runs crossing the plate. Leadoff
Kaitlyn Powell went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and was left on base three times.
Katie Hayes went 2-4 as well and grabbed an RBI and was left on base twice. UD left nine runners on base and the Cobbers stole six bases on the Spartans.
In the game versus Misericordia University, UD scored two runs off six hits and committed one error allowing two runs to score.
Anna Luczak went 2-3 and added an RBI. The Spartans left seven runners on base in the loss.
UD will enjoy a day off on Wednesday before returning on Thursday to face Houghton University and Concordia-Moorhead once again. UD will wrap up their spring break on Friday when they play John Carroll University and Rivier University at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Melbourne, Fla.
