Softball Remains Unbeaten After 6-0 Start

MELBOURNE, Fla. - The University of Dubuque used extra innings to earn a 4-1 victory over Rose-Hulman in eight innings and blasted Rivier University 11-3 in five innings in the nightcap to improve to 6-0 overall for first year head coach Kristen Duross.

A trio of Spartans finished with multiple hits in the eight inning thriller. Bella Allison went 2-3 with a run scored. Katie Hayes was 2-4 with two RBI's along with Megan Leick who was 2-4 at the plate with two RBI's and a run scored. Katie Hayes and Zoe Connell each finished with a triple. The Spartans scored four runs off eight hits and committed no errors.

UD allowed just one run in the bottom of the eighth after holding Rose-Hulman to five hits. Ally Gullette capture her third win of the season allowing one earned run and five strikeouts with no walks.

UD found their offense early in the 11-3 win over Rivier University in just five innings. The Spartans scored 11 runs off 10 hits and committed no errors. The American Rivers Conference softball position player of the week, Grace Stevenson went 2-3 and scored two runs. Amber Wisely finished 2-4 at the plate with two runs scored. Kayla Ponting led with two RBI's and Lauren Jacobs also ended the game with two RBI's and scored a run.

Ciaran Rigby earned the five inning victory after facing 24 batters and allowing three earned runs and striking out three to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Spartans continue play at the USSSA Space Coast Complex on Tuesday when they face the Concordia College Cobbers and Misericordia University on Tuesday, March 4.
