DUBUQUE, Iowa - The University of Dubuque baseball team had their home opener on Monday afternoon, taking on the UW-Platteville Pioneers. The Spartans scored first on their way to a 6-2 win behind four Spartans recording multiple hits. 

Tyson Dent delivered the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning for the Spartans on a single through the middle of the infield. In the third inning the Spartans scored on a wild pitch by the Pioneers and then again in the fifth inning off a Will Sullivan single through the left side to give the Spartans a 4-0 advantage.

 The Pioneers got on the board in the sixth off a balk by the Spartans pitcher, before the Spartans tacked on two more runs in the seventh with two out RBI singles by Dent and Justin Potts. The Pioneers scored their final run off a passed ball in the eighth.

Aidan Elfering went 3-4 at the plate, scoring three runs. Dent recorded two hits, knocking in three runs, while Sullivan and Potts each had RBI hits. 

Shae Buskohl earned his first win of the season, pitching the first four innings of the ballgame by not allowing a run on three hits and was able to strike out four batters.

The Spartans improve back to .500 at 5-5 on the season.
