ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The University of Dubuque baseball team had a quick turnaround after their win over UW-Platteville Monday afternoon with a single game against the Augustana College (IL) Vikings on Tuesday night. The Spartans rallied after an early deficit, but fell one run short to the Vikings in a 5-4 ballgame.
Augie was able to score four runs in the first two innings after one of the two errors in the inning led to a two-run double in the first inning. Augie doubled their lead in the second with three hits in the inning. The Spartans finally got on the board in the third inning after
Aidan Elfering hit a two-run homerun (third of the season) to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Spartans scored in the third inning and then later on tied the game in the fifth inning after
Tyson Dent hit into a bases loaded double play that scored
Jake Cekander. The final and game winning run for Augie came in the bottom of the fifth off a sacrifice fly to left field.
Will Sullivan and Elfering recorded extra base hits, with Elfering having a three-hit night. The Spartans recorded five walks in the game and left 14 on base tonight.
Charlie Jaeger got his third start on the mound going 6.0 innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs. Jaeger also recorded four strikeouts. Sullivan finished the final two innings on the mound in the loss.
The Spartans are now 5-6 on the season.

The Spartans will now turn their attention to conference play where they will open up with the Central College Dutch in a three game series starting on Friday, March 21 at 3:00 p.m.
